We have high expectations for anyone who wants our endorsement.  We may have a citizen legislature, but they have to be full of fire and vinegar, no easy path here.

The $4.5B to $5B+ Minnesota deficit through fiscal 2010 will be updated by February 17th state budget forecast. Unlike 6 years ago there is no reserve and no $1B of tobacco settlement money. Governor Pawlenty will probably propose capping U of M tuition increase at 5%, and somehow cut increase in state healthcare cost from +17% to +3%. The entire deficit comes from built-in escalators,  so Pawlenty will propose across the board cuts except for Veterans and Safety functions. The May 17th scheduled adjournment may drag on for months.
